Belarus formally accuses Ukraine of planning an attack on its territory

MADRID, 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Belarus has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to the country, Igor Kizim, to formally denounce kyiv for planning an attack inside the country in an accusation that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has categorically denied.

Ambassador Kizim's summons occurred on Saturday night, when he received an official protest note about "kyiv's plans to attack Belarus," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

In the same statement, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Oleg Nikolenko, "categorically rejects the insinuations of the Belarusian regime" about these alleged plans.

The Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, openly confirmed this week that his government does participate in the military offensive launched by Russia on Ukraine, after months in which he has made an effort to clarify his degree of involvement with the invasion ordered in February by his ally. Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We do not rule out that the delivery of the diplomatic note may be part of the Russian plan to further provoke and accuse Ukraine. The Belarusian authorities must stop complying with the whims of the Kremlin and immediately stop supporting Russia in its aggression against Ukraine." , he added in the statement, published on his Facebook page.

The spokesman appeals to the Belarusian population "not to succumb to provocations". "Ukraine has never invaded foreign territories. We strictly adhere to the fundamental norms and principles of international law and the United Nations Charter," he added.
