Belarus and Russia begin their joint military deployment in full escalation of tensions

MADRID, 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Belarus has already received the first Russian forces that will be part of the joint military deployment between the two allied countries, with which the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, wants to respond to the alleged risk of attacks from neighboring countries.

Lukashenko and Putin signed this commitment last Monday, in a meeting that was followed by repeated nuances by Ukraine, which denies the threat made by Minsk. In fact, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has proposed sending international observers to the area.

The Belarusian Ministry of Defense confirmed this Saturday the arrival of the first Russian troops, the start of a deployment with which it wants to "strengthen the protection" of Belarusian territory. Lukashenko's government therefore insists that it is only for defensive purposes, in an attempt to allay the fear of a clear intervention in favor of Russia.

Minsk imposed on Friday the "anti-terrorist operation regime" in the face of possible "provocations" by neighboring countries and carried out an alleged partial covert mobilization to recruit some 2,000 more people for the Armed Forces.
