Belarra affirms that the renewal of the Constitutional Court does not address the crisis caused by the "judicial coup" and demands that the CGPJ be unblocked

Demands to change the system of election of the Judiciary because the PP "does not respect the rules of democracy"

MADRID, 28 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has assured that although the unblocking of the renewal of the Constitutional Court (TC) is positive, it in no way resolves the "very serious crisis" generated by the suspension of the parliamentary process of the reform of the high court, which described as a "judicial coup".

In this way, he has stressed that the problem of origin, the "original sin", is the blockade that the PP has been exercising in the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and has defended that the priority of the Government, together with the progressive allies in Congress, it is to change the election system and lower the parliamentary majorities to elect new members.

In statements to Cadena Ser, collected by Europa Press, the Minister of Social Rights has indicated that the election by the Judiciary of magistrates César Tolosa and María Luisa Segoviano for the TC represents a "progress" towards the "normalization" of institutional relations.

However, he has advised taking a "little look back" to understand that the PP, with its "judicial branch", is exercising an opposition whose strategy is "blockade" and "generating a deep institutional crisis" because "it does not respect the rules of democracy".

And for this reason, he has opined that the renewal of the TC is a good "step" but still far from resolving the problem and that it in no way "tarnishes" what has recently been experienced due to the suspension of the parliamentary vote on the reform to unblock the guarantee court, that it was "very serious".

Consequently, he has expressed that until the renewal of the Judiciary is resolved, it will be "difficult" for the recent crisis due to the intervention of the TC, through its conservative majority, in the powers of the legislative branch not to occur again in the future. .

For Belarra, the essential thing is to tackle the origin of the problem, which is in the blockage of the changes in the CGPJ and in a renewal system "tailored to bipartisanship", which is no longer a reality in Spain and allows the PP to exercise a minority of "blocking.

Finally, he explained that he has been insisting on the PSOE for some time in changing the election system, enabling the option of appointing members by absolute majority, because a State power cannot be allowed to become independent of the popular will expressed at the polls.
