Belarra acknowledges that the embezzlement reform is what Podemos "least likes" about the changes in the Penal Code

He stresses that the amendment is technically "correct" but has doubts about how it will be applied by the judges

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has recognized that the reform of the crime of embezzlement is one of the elements that her formation least likes with respect to the changes in the Penal Code that will be introduced by means of a bill in the Congress, although he affirms that technically it is "correct" in the legal field.

In statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, he has insisted that his political space has doubts about how this change will be applied, agreed by PSOE and ERC and that they have decided to "accompany" because there are other elements in the law that do pleases, such as the repeal of the crime of sedition that United We Can have demanded for a long time.

He has also expressed his satisfaction for having introduced improvements in the new criminal offense of aggravated public disorder to increase the protection of peaceful social protest, although he has insisted that the embezzlement reform "is not what" the minority partner of the coalition.

"There are elements that we like more or less, but it allows us to advance on the path of de-judicialization," Belarra has emphasized to value the suppression of the crime of sedition, which allows progress on the path of "agreement" and " through dialogue" with Catalonia, in the face of the legacy of "political confrontation" that they inherited from the PP.

Questioned about why they accept the redefinition of embezzlement if it does not convince Podemos, the minister said that they ponder a global agreement that is positive and that this point has been led by the "majority party" of the coalition. In fact, she has hoped that in the future there could be a more favorable correlation of forces for Podemos in order to accelerate the social transformations that are still pending.
