Beijing extends its military maneuvers with Taiwan

MADRID, 8 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Chinese Armed Forces have confirmed this Monday the extension of the military maneuvers that it has been developing around Taiwan, despite the fact that naval traffic in the area has recovered part of the pulse lost after the growing tension unleashed by the visit of the president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

After this trip, Beijing reinforced its military presence next to an island that it claims as its own, although it initially planned to complete the largest war exercises in recent history on Sunday.

The Chinese Army has confirmed that this Monday it has perpetrated simulated attacks on submarines and planes "in the air and maritime space near the island of Taiwan." The note does not specify where these new maneuvers have been carried out.

The spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Wu Qian, has justified these actions as a "necessary warning" to both Taipei and Washington, claiming that it is a "reasonable and necessary" response to the recent "provocations", reports the DPA agency.

For its part, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense has assured that it has also detected Chinese planes and ships near the island, although there is no specific alert that limits navigation due to the use of live fire.

In fact, naval traffic has begun to show signs of minimal normality and, since Saturday, more than 40 ships have already passed through the area where Beijing was carrying out its exercises, south of the main Taiwanese port, according to an estimate compiled by the Bloomberg agency.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Transportation has also confirmed the resumption of air traffic and on Sunday it closed with about 430 flights.
