The president of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet, will participate this Monday in the meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), to be held in Rabat, together with the president of the Moroccan Chamber of Representatives , Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the Vice President of the European Parliament Eva Kaili.
At the meeting, the current situation of the Mediterranean, the challenges and future perspectives of Mediterranean cooperation will be addressed and, later, Batet will hold a bilateral meeting with the president of the Moroccan House of Representatives to discuss matters of common interest to both countries.
The President of the Congress will end her visit after attending the official dinner offered by the President of the Moroccan Chamber of Representatives.
Batet's visit to Morocco comes six months after Spain announced the start of a new stage in its relations with its southern neighbor, by virtue of an agreement by which, among other things, Spain endorsed the proposal for autonomy for the Sahara proposed by Morocco as "the most serious, realistic and credible base" to resolve the conflict related to the former Spanish colony.
