Bagnaia wants to complete the 'hunt' for Quartararo and Guevara seeks the title in Moto3

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Australian Grand Prix returns this weekend to the Motorcycle World Championship, which enters its final stretch with great emotion in the MotoGP category, with the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) definitively stalked by the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and with the Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) with renewed options, while Phillip Island could see the first champion of the season, in Moto3, with the Spanish Izan Guevara (GasGas).

The championship is now entering its final and decisive stretch with much to decide, especially in the 'queen' category, with Quartararo and Bagnaia separated by two points, and in Moto2, where the Spanish Augusto Fernández (Kalex) leads by 1.5 to Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex). Everything seems more favorable for Guevara in Moto3, where he has almost two races ahead and has everything in his favor to be the first winner of the campaign.

Phillip Island and its beautiful views return after two years of absence due to the pandemic in a penultimate event that hopes to still keep the excitement in all the championships until next week in Sepang (Malaysia) and where a mistake can already be fatal.

In MotoGP, the poor dynamics of Quartararo after the summer break and the improvement in Bagnaia's performance has meant that the Frenchman has lost all the great advantage he had and that he already has the Italian just two points behind in a championship that is practically restarts, but with only three Grand Prix already ahead. 'Pecco' has added 111 points in the second part of the World Cup, for the 47 of Nice, who has only been able to be on the podium once (second in Austria) and once more in the 'Top 5' (fifth in San Marine).

"We have to think about the championship, but I have to take it race by race. Now it's like the beginning, we are almost even on points and there are five of us who are not separated by so many. I think this could be a good race for us and both recent years and the 2021 title give me a lot of confidence and more experience to stay calm in these situations," warned the Frenchman.

Bagnaia arrives at Phillip Island much more animated after adding three wins, two second places and one third place, and only one failure, the '0' at Motegi. "I think that I personally have improved much more than the bike. There are five riders with possibilities, although Fabio and I have more because we are ahead. Our potential is very high, we are in a good moment and we have to take advantage of it", he admitted.

Ducati has not won on this track since Casey Stoner did it in 2010 for the fourth time in a row with the Italian brand and both Quartararo and Bagnaia will have to watch the other 'Desmosedici', who are taking almost all the podiums, although it is not yet known if there will be equipment orders in the Italian factory.

In this sense, the Italian Enea Bastianini and the Australian Jack Miller will rush their real options to be candidates since they are located 39 and 40 points respectively and behind the third candidate, the Spanish Aleix Espargaró. The Catalan rider reaches the final stretch 20 points off the lead and has already warned that it is his turn to take risks if he wants to get to the end with options and will try to be on the pomade in a circuit where his bike can perform at a good level.

In a Grand Prix where the weather and the wind can also be decisive, and to which KTM arrives in good shape, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) will try to be the protagonist and be another of those who can scratch important points from the title candidates.

The one from Cervera was the last winner at Phillip Island, a circuit where he favors running counterclockwise and where he hopes that the jump on a physical level that he has given will allow him to be in the fight for the second podium of the Japanese brand this campaign after the one achieved by Pol Espargaró in Qatar.

On the other hand, the Australian Grand Prix could crown its first champion of the season this Sunday, and everything indicates that it will be the Spaniard Izan Guevara (GasGas), who has it quite well on track and who faces his first great opportunity.

The Balearic was fifth in Thailand and will be planted in Phillip Island with a 49-point lead over the current world runner-up, Dennis Foggia (Honda). The Italian won in Buriram and will try to take the excitement to at least Malaysia, taking advantage of his greater knowledge of the track.

Guevara has never raced on this track and to become champion without depending on his rival he has to add his sixth victory of the season. If he is second, he needs to not be behind the Italian, and if he is third, Foggia must be off the podium and Sergio García Dols, his teammate in the Aspar team and still with mathematical options, does not win.

Finally, there is also a very tight stage in Moto2, where the Spaniard Augusto Fernández (Kalex) leads, with only one and a half points ahead of the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex) after the chaotic race in Thailand. The man from Madrid will try to scratch points from his rival in a fight that seems to have its end in Cheste (Valencia).
