Bagnaia tests positive in a breathalyzer test in Ibiza

"I'm practically a teetotaler and it was a mistake I shouldn't have made"

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Italian MotoGP rider Francesco 'Pecco' Bagnaia (Ducati) has asked for "forgiveness" after testing positive in a breathalyzer test that was carried out last morning after a minor car accident in Ibiza, stating that he is "practically teetotal" and guaranteeing that you have "learned your lesson".

The man from Turin, 25 years old and fourth in the general classification of riders in the premier category of motorcycling, was on the Balearic island celebrating his weekend victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. After leaving the establishment where he was, he had an incident with the vehicle he was driving and was subjected to a breathalyzer test, in which he tested positive.

"Last night I was in Ibiza with my friends at a party during this break without MotoGP races. We were celebrating my victory in Assen together. On leaving the club, around 3:00 am, at a roundabout I ended up with the two front wheels in a ditch without involving other vehicles or people," he explained in a statement published on his social networks.

"The blood alcohol control carried out by the Police determined that I drank more than what Spanish law allows. I am very sorry for what happened: I am practically a teetotaler and it was a mistake that I should not have made. I apologize and I assure you that I have learned the lesson. You should never get behind the wheel if you have drunk alcohol," he concluded.
