The president of the Popular Party (PP) in Aragon, Jorge Azcón, has indicated that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, "has expressed his opinion", which, moreover, he understands as a "confidence" vote, when he announced that he, the current mayor of Zaragoza, will be the next candidate for the Presidency of the Government of Aragon in the 2023 elections, but he has made it clear that the final decision is his and will be made within the established deadlines.

Feijóo has revealed this Wednesday that Jorge Azcón will be the candidate for the Presidency of the autonomous government. In an interview on Onda Cero, which has been collected by Europa Press, Feijóo asked to wait until the end of the year to find out the names of all the candidates and added that he would like the decision to be announced by Azcón himself. On who would then head the list for the Zaragoza City Council, he added: "Let's wait for her to tell us."

In statements to the media, Azcón stressed that PP Aragón "will respect the times set" and before the end of the year or the beginning of next year the decisions of the candidates will be made.

Azcón has elaborated that Feijoó's announcement is understood as a "vote of confidence", but the candidates' decision "will be taken in Aragon, within the deadlines established at the time, and until the end of the year or the beginning of 2023 it will not be will make the decision of who leads the candidacies for the Presidency of the autonomous community and the Zaragoza City Council.

"I think -he stressed- that Feijoó expresses his opinion and is absolutely free. He has given his opinion of what it should be and I say that the decisions of the candidates will be made in Aragon and with the deadlines that will be in Aragon. Let's go to respect the terms and decisions of the PP in Aragon".

"Feijoó's opinion - he recalled - is not new, but the definitive opinion is mine and when I said that I would make the final decision known, it will be then and there will be no changes to the calendar that is set. It will be then when we decide the candidates to the autonomous community and the City Council".

In his opinion, "it is not uncommon" for the president of the PP to express his opinion and each one is free to make his decisions to add: "I am going to take mine." "He expresses an opinion - by Feijóo - but the president of the PP in Aragón and mayor of Zaragoza will make his decision that has not yet been made."

After reiterating that the decision will be made within the established deadlines, he has considered that the "novelty" is that Feijóo has expressed his opinion, "but my decisions and my times are the same as before Feijóo spoke", he has clarified.

As a matter of fact, he explained that an opinion is an opinion and when they are in favor they can be a vote of confidence, but "I have sufficient criteria to make my own decisions."

On who would be the candidate for the Zaragoza City Council before Feijoó's advance that it will be a woman, Azcón has settled by stating: "I am not going to enter into speculation about the decisions to be made. Regarding the fact that this announcement harms him in the eyes of the opposition, he has responded: "We'll see why it's a decision not taken." The opposition is very free to say one thing and do the opposite. "It is very common in the PSOE and nothing new in the incoherence of the opposition."

In this context, he added that Feijóo can express his opinion whenever he wants and the opinion of the president of the PP is "qualified", another thing is that the decision has to be made in Aragon and "that is the most important thing of all", he has riveted.

"It is evident that he has expressed his opinion and that they can mean a vote of confidence, but they are not the final decisions that are going to be taken," he pointed out.

Likewise, he wanted to make it clear that it is one thing for decisions to be made "and another for them to be approved by the party bodies and there should not be a similarity between the two in time."

When the decision is made, he has assured that the media will be summoned to make it known, "which is what we have always said."

Regarding possible candidates, Azcón has assured that the PP has a bench so that "not one but several candidates can present themselves and be the alternative to Lambán. There are several candidates who could be better than Lambán."
