Ayuso, Revilla, Mañueco and Torres freeze their salaries in 2023, while Rueda and Moreno raise it, like Sánchez

The Galician president will see his salary increased by 4%, like the central government, and that of Andalusia will do so by 3.5%

At least the regional presidents of Madrid, Cantabria, Castilla y León and the Canary Islands plan to freeze their salary and that of the rest of their Government for next year, while the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, and that of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno , are the only ones who, to date, plan to apply a salary increase for the year 2023, as well as the salary increase that will be registered by the Chief Executive, Pedro Sánchez, and his ministers.

The central government has decided to apply the salary increase agreed with CCOO and UGT of 4% compared to last year. With this, the annual salary of the President of the Government will be 90,010.20 euros per year, which means a monthly remuneration of 7,500 euros.

Likewise, the annual salary of the three vice presidents of the Government (Nadia Calviño, Yolanda Díaz and Teresa Ribera) rises to 84,600.72 euros per year compared to the 81,341.16 euros they have been receiving. It is a monthly salary of 7,050.06 euros gross, since they do not have payments either.

In this context, two regional presidents --Alfonso Rueda and Juanma Moreno-- have decided to follow the path of the central government and apply a salary increase, although the percentage of this increase varies between the two, since that of Galicia does concern to 4%, while the Andalusian leader will register a rise of 3.5%.

As explained by the Government of Juanma Moreno, the budget project for next year does contemplate a 3.5% increase in remuneration for senior positions in 2023, alleging that in 2021 and 2022 they were frozen.

Meanwhile, the Galician government has also reflected in its public accounts for the coming year a salary increase of 4% for Alfonso Rueda and his advisers. In this way, the remuneration of the head of the Galician Government goes from the 79,651 euros per year that appeared in 2022 for his predecessor in office, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to the 82,843 euros per year that Alfonso Rueda will receive in 2023.

However, the Galician Parliament has agreed to keep the salary of regional deputies frozen in the budgets for 2023, contrary to what the regional Executive will do.

In contrast, Madrid, Cantabria, Castilla y León and the Canary Islands have included a salary freeze for the members of their respective regional governments in their budget projects for next year.

In the case of the Community of Madrid, it has been twelve consecutive years with the same salary for the Presidency and its directors, although Isabel Díaz Ayuso is the regional president who receives the most annual remuneration from these four communities, about 103,090 euros a year.

Of these four communities that have decided to freeze their salaries, the second president who receives the most is that of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who will continue to receive 76,823 euros next year. He is closely followed by that of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, who in 2023 will maintain his salary of 76,355.08 euros per year.

Meanwhile, the president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, has decided this year to freeze his salary, for which he will continue to receive a total of 64,606 euros per year in 2023.

In any case, there are regional executives who have not yet presented their budgets for next year --some have even not yet approved the spending ceiling--, while others have not detailed this aspect, although they have already made known their accounts for 2023.

It has also been known this week that the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís, as well as the Government area delegates and other councilors of the Corporation (57 in total) will freeze their salaries for the third consecutive year.
