At least eight dead and hundreds of thousands of people without access to electricity due to storm in Canada

MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At least eight people have died and hundreds of thousands have been left without access to electricity due to the storm that hit southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada, on Saturday.

Canadian authorities have confirmed this Sunday that at least eight people have died in the country from the storm, as reported by CBC News.

Storm damage has prompted the cities of Uxbridge, north of Toronto, and Clarence-Rockland, east of Ottawa, to declare a state of emergency, while hundreds of thousands of people in Ontario and Quebec remain without power. while emergency crews work to restore services.

For their part, electricity providers have warned that some customers could take days to get power back.

"Between the trees, branches, broken poles and downed cables, it's really a very, very complicated cleanup," said Hydro One spokeswoman Tiziana Baccega Rosa.

'Environment Canada' has updated its forecast for some parts of Quebec this Sunday afternoon, warning of strong electrical storms.
