Astana suspends 'Superman' López for being investigated for alleged crime of drug trafficking

MADRID, 22 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Astana team confirmed this Friday that it has "suspended" the Colombian cyclist Miguel Ángel López after he is being investigated for an alleged crime of drug trafficking in which the Spanish doctor Marcos Maynar would be involved.

"The news that was spread in the media yesterday, Thursday afternoon, took us by surprise and, at the moment, we do not have any details. In this regard, the team has decided to suspend Miguel Ángel López from any activity within the team until that all the circumstances of the case be clarified," said the Kazakh formation.

The cycling portal 'Cycle 21' advanced this Thursday that 'Superman' was received by agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard upon arrival at the Adolfo Suárez airport, who questioned him and later let him go.

According to the website, which published a photo of the moment, the Colombian is already being formally investigated according to 'Cycle 21' within the case being carried out by the Court of Instruction number 4 of Cáceres after the arrest last May of the doctor and professor of the University of Extremadura Marcos Maynar, who was implicated years ago in other sports-related doping cases, but who, until now, has never been convicted.
