Asens (UP) asks Sánchez for a reform to renew the CGPJ "without the PP" and summons him to "stop trusting" in Feijóo

Considers that the resignation of Lesmes is a "slap in the face" to the conservative members in the face of their "seditious" attitude

MADRID, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the parliamentary group of United We Can in Congress, Jaume Asens, has summoned the PSOE to "stop trusting" in the PP and has called on his partner to promote a reform that allows the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary ( CGPJ) without the popular ones.

In this way, the leader of En Comú Podem has once again called for a legislative change that allows new members to be appointed in the governing body of the judges by absolute majority, in the event that the path of two thirds of the chamber is not possible as He has been asking for his space for a long time.

In statements to RNE, collected by Europa Press, Asens has been "pessimistic" regarding the meeting that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will hold with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, after confirming the president of the CGPJ, Carlos Lesmes , who will make his resignation official today so as "not to be an accomplice" with the paralysis suffered by the institution.

“We have been telling the PP for years that the Constitution must be complied with and we know that it is not going to do it of its own free will. The PSOE must stop trusting that the PP is going to comply with the Constitution because it has been entrenched for a long time until they win the elections and come back to power", Asens stressed.

Therefore, the representative of the confederal group has once again put on the table a reform of the CGPJ to overcome this blockade of the popular, thus alluding to the bet they made in 2020 to enable the path of election of members by absolute majority, which guarantees the "a broader plurality than that of the PP" by requiring the participation of at least half of the political groups in Congress.

Finally, Asens has pointed out that Lesmes's resignation is "a slap in the face" to the conservative members of the CGPJ who, in his opinion, are "blatantly" failing to comply with the law with their refusal to appoint two magistrates to the Constitutional Court who the law demands, thus continuing his "seditious behavior". And it is that, in his opinion, these representatives with an expired mandate should also resign.
