The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, recognized the contacts that the City Council and the Community of Madrid had with the organizers of the Formula 1 World Championship, but described it as "something very preliminary" that was done to "see if the possibility" of the Spanish capital hosting a Grand Prix for this sport.
"It is true that from the Community and the City Council together with IFEMA what we are doing is to see if the possibility exists. Formula 1 is one of the few major international events that Madrid has never hosted and as such it is an issue that should be explored, but it is something still very preliminary", declared Almeida during the presentation of 'Legends-The Home of Football', the largest world football museum that will open in Madrid at the end of 2022.
Last week, a letter was published from the Community of Madrid addressed to Stefano Domenicali, president of the company that organizes the Formula 1 World Championship, in which the interest of the Spanish capital in hosting a Grand Prix was shown, something that the mayor has recognized that it is still far from being produced.
