BARCELONA, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The player and captain of Barça Femení Alexia Putellas has been chosen by UEFA as the best player in this season's Women's Champions League, in addition to being part of the ideal eleven along with three other Catalan teammates, in a better team dominated by up to six members of the current champions of Olympique de Lyon.

"UEFA's panel of technical observers has named Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas as the best player in the 2021/22 UEFA Women's Champions League," the European football body announced.

Alexia, who was unable to help Barça retain the 2021 title, losing the Turin final against Olympique de Lyon 1-3, finished the campaign as the competition's top scorer and seen as the best by pundits.

"The versatile 28-year-old midfielder, often crucial to Barcelona's attack both down the flank and in the centre, finished as the top scorer in the revamped competition with 11 goals and two assists. In fact, her combined tally of 13 goals and assists was also the highest of the season," UEFA said.

The Catalan scored in eight of her ten games in Europe this season, including the last goal of the tournament, which served as consolation in the final defeat of the already former champions by 1-3 against the mighty Lyon, who in Turin achieved their eighth European cap .

UEFA also highlighted Alexia who covered a total distance of 53.2 kilometers in the competition, a figure only surpassed by her teammate Aitana Bonmatí. Both, along with defender Mapi León and midfielder Patri Guijarro, are part of the 'ideal eleven' for this Champions League.

A best ideal team made up of six Lyon players, with the goalkeeper Endler, the defenders Bathy, Renard and Bacha, the midfielder Henry and the forward Hegerberg, the four from Barça --León, Guijarro, Bonmatí and Putellas-- and the forward Katoto (PSG).
