Albares defends that "we cannot resign ourselves to war" and assures that support for Ukraine will continue as long as necessary

MADRID, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has stressed that the government's priority is the return of peace to Europe, while making it clear that support for Ukraine will continue "as long as necessary" since does not give the possibility of resignation in the face of war.

"We cannot resign ourselves to war. We cannot resign ourselves to Russia's warmongering" that Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again ratified in his last speech, Albares said before the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Congress of Deputies.

The minister has assured that the Government's first priority is for "peace to return to Europe as soon as possible and thus guarantee the safety of the Spanish people" as well as its values, among which he has cited respect for Human Rights, democracy or sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Albares has expressed his chest from the solidarity shown from the outset by Spain and the support given to Ukraine, both from a military and humanitarian point of view, with the largest aid package to a country in history, as well as the reception of 170,000 Ukrainian refugees. That support, he stressed, will continue "as long as necessary and as long as necessary."

The head of diplomacy has justified the sending of anti-aircraft defense systems to protect civil infrastructures that are being subjected to "indiscriminate and totally unacceptable attacks", as well as the sending of dozens of generators and transformers to counteract the effects on the electrical system .
