Activists and journalists denounce to the Mexican Prosecutor's Office the espionage of the Army through Pegasus

MADRID, 4 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Organizations for the defense of Human Rights in Mexico filed a complaint on Monday with the Attorney General's Office in order to clarify the espionage through Pegasus perpetrated by the country's Army against journalists and activists.

"This investigation has gathered evidence that shows that, contrary to the promises of the current president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) acquired during this Government a remote information monitoring system from the company with exclusive representation for sell Pegasus in Mexico", declared the representatives of the organizations in a press conference collected by 'El Sol de México'.

The investigation by civil society organizations has indicated that at least two journalists --Ricardo Raphael and a reporter from the Animal Político portal-- and an activist --Raymundo Ramos-- have been spied on by the Army while they were carrying out work related to of human rights violations committed by the Armed Forces.

In addition, they have indicated that the evidence proves that Sedena "has systematically lied" to various instances to hide the existence of said contract.

Therefore, these findings would demonstrate the breach of López Obrador's commitment to end illegal espionage in Mexico. In this sense, they have criticized the Armed Forces for continuing to violate Human Rights. Thus, they consider that these tests refute "the theses on which the current administration has based itself to deepen the militarization of the country."
