A journalist was murdered in Honduras, the fifth in 2022

MADRID, 11 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Honduran NGO Committee for Free Expression (C-Libre) has reported that a journalist from the country has been murdered this Monday, in what would be the fifth reporter murdered in Honduran territory so far this year.

The journalist, Edwin Josué Andino Canaca, 23, has been found dead near his home with gunshots, after being kidnapped, in the city of Comayagüela, in the Central District, on Monday morning.

In addition, Andino Canaca's father, Edwin Emilio Andino Amador, 48, has also been killed. His body has been found 15 kilometers away.

The Honduran National Police has indicated that the murder of Andino Canaca and his father is due to a crime planned by organized criminal structures.

Preliminary reports conclude that there is a pattern of execution to enter the house in such a way that the attackers take the victims without creating a big scandal, reports the newspaper 'Proceso'.

Local media have reported that eyewitnesses would have seen how the perpetrators of the crime, dressed in Military Police clothing, would have forcibly removed the victims from their home.

Andino Canaca was a collaborator of the television channel La Tribuna (LTV), a chain that has expressed its condolences for the death of the reporter. "The officials, executives and collaborators of LTV deeply regret the irreparable loss of the young man," the company has indicated.

The Association of Journalists of Honduras has demanded that the authorities clarify this murder as soon as possible. "We strongly condemn the murder of the young journalist Edwin Josué Andino and demand that his death not go unpunished," reads a message shared on the organization's social networks.
