80% of Spaniards rule out making planned purchases due to inflation

The most affected sectors are 'smartphones', travel and 'gaming'

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

80% of Spaniards rule out making the purchases they had planned in the next six months due to inflation, which is five percentage points more than those who manifested the postponement of their purchases before the summer (75%), according to special study on the impact of inflation on the consumption of Spanish households by El Observatorio Cetelem.

Specifically, the report shows that the most affected consumers correspond to the age segment between 25 and 29 years. For 84% of shoppers of these ages, the latest news about inflation has caused cancellations in their purchases planned for the next six months.

Among consumers who declare themselves affected by high inflation and who have ruled out planned purchases, more than half (51.5%) say they do not have a budget to carry out these purchases, while 47.4% prefer to allocate that amount to savings.

By sectors, the products that Spanish consumers would discard from their planned purchases as a result of the increase in inflation would be smartphones, 27.3% vs. 19.9% compared to July; travel (27%) and 'gaming' (25.4%).

The report reveals that all sectors have seen an increase in the percentage of consumers who discard their purchases compared to the month of July.
