20% of gas stations are at risk of default, according to Iberinform

MADRID, 2 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

20% of gas stations are at high or maximum levels of default risk, compared to 60% that have low or minimum values, according to data from the Insight View platform of Iberinform Crédito y Caución.

Specifically, the worst financial behavior is recorded among gas stations founded in the last decade, in which the risk of default rises to 29% of the companies in this segment.

Meanwhile, among gas stations between 10 and 25 years old, this ratio stands at 15% and falls to 12% among those over 25 years old.

The aggregate analysis of the official accounts presented by the gas stations shows the reality of a sector that works with an average supply period of 13 days.

Since 2016, the margin on sales with which the sector works has shown great stability, slightly above 2%. The accounts show that gas stations have managed to maintain important ratios during the initial phase of the pandemic to measure their ability to pay, such as solvency (2.16 times), liquidity (1.74 times), treasury (1.53 times) and availability (0.61 times).

According to the report, these ratios, which are derived from the registry information, do not yet reflect the impact of the evolution of the sector in 2022, marked by the increase in fuel prices and the application of discounts per liter.

Regarding the distribution by company size, it shows the atomization of a sector where the presence of large and medium-sized companies is testimonial. Thus, 52% are micro-enterprises, a percentage that rises to 95% if small ones are also added.

According to the data offered by Insight View, Madrid (10%), Valencia (7%) and Barcelona (6%) are the provinces with the most companies dedicated to fuel supply, followed by Seville (5%), Murcia (4 %), Alicante (4%), Granada (3%), Malaga (3%) A Coruña (3%) and Badajoz (3%).
