UP asks Interior to clarify if there are complaints in the CIEs about the poor state of the food given to inmates

MADRID, 15 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Unidas Podemos requests explanations from the Ministry of the Interior in response to complaints about the poor state of food in foreign detention centers (CIE) and in rooms for asylum seekers at airports.

This is how the deputies of the confederal group Ismael Cortés and Enrique Santiago convey it through a series of parliamentary questions, where they also demand to know if the adequate hours of rest and daytime walks stipulated by regulation are guaranteed in all centers.

The two parliamentarians argue in their initiative the publication in the United Kingdom on the living conditions of refugees who are in state resources, carried out by the NGO Refugge Action, as well as information in the media regarding poor conditions of inmates in the CIE, related to aspects such as weather conditions or food.

In this way, they point out that Royal Decree 162/2014 contemplates the operating regulations and internal regime of these centers, with indications regarding the schedules, communications or recreational activities that fall on each facility, prior jointly with the Coordination Board.

Specifically, the two deputies have raised several questions to the Ministry of the Interior such as detailing the schedules that the CIE have for their different activities and whether it is guaranteed that there are at least eight hours of night rest and at least four of daytime walks.

In terms of food, they want the Government to specify if the suggestions of the inmates are taken into account when preparing the menus, if special diets are contemplated for cases and if they are provided with at least one and a half liters of drinking water per day to these people.

Finally, they question the Interior if it is aware of the complaints about the food in these centers and if, if so, it has chosen to open an investigation or if it has taken action against the companies awarded the contracts.
