Union of Unions asks that the Family Agriculture Law not benefit families from large companies and funds

The Union of Farmers and Livestock Unions has highlighted that the new Family Farming Law must favor "solely and exclusively" Spanish professional farmers and ranchers and not the families that own large agricultural companies or the investment funds "that have burst in and are increasingly in control in the sector.

In this sense, they have considered that "the term family is really very confusing" and that "family groups with large companies in the sector and investment funds cannot be put in the same bag with small and medium-sized farmers and ranchers." ".

However, the organization has considered that it is a "necessary and essential" law to protect family farming, but maintains its "skepticism and caution" until it sees how the regulations of the "star measure" presented by the president are finalized. of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Unión de Uniones has assured that it can be a "historic measure", which they support "if you really want to bet on that family model that has a high social, economic, territorial and environmental value."

The organization has recalled that the only similar legal reference in the sector is in force, which is Law 19/1995 on the Modernization of Agricultural Farms, which marks as "priority" farms those run by professional farmers and ranchers and with a small or medium-sized farm. economic dimension.

"However, it is difficult to remember a single time in which the Government has obtained state aid with greater benefits for this type of farms," ​​they criticized, stressing that the organization has requested it "insistently", for example, for the Renew plan for agricultural machinery "without there having been a positive response in this regard."

Thus, they have trusted that this new Family Farming Law "does not make those same mistakes and will serve so that professional Spanish farmers and ranchers can obtain the desired protection and continue with their activity in the future."

Unión de Uniones has announced that it will present its observations and amendments to this legislative project over the next year and will do its work in the Cortes, "to try to ensure that the Law favors professional farmers and ranchers in agricultural policies."
