Ukraine accuses Russia of damaging granaries and oil facilities during latest attacks on Odessa

Zelenski orders greater protection of this type of infrastructure

The Government warns of the loss of more than 60,000 tons of grain

The Ukrainian authorities have accused Russian troops on Wednesday of damaging granaries and oil installations in the latest attacks carried out against several ports in the Odesa region.

The country's Prosecutor's Office has indicated that this type of infrastructure has suffered damage due to "enemy attacks" and has pointed out that the industrial sector has also been affected, according to a message broadcast via Telegram.

Likewise, they have denounced that the Odesa cemetery has also been the object of these attacks, which has caused damage to residential buildings and vehicles. The Minister of Development, Territories and Infrastructure, Oleksander Kubrakov, has stated through his Facebook account that Moscow's goal is to "destroy any way to distribute grain to global markets."

"An attack on granaries is an act of aggression against the world. The goal of Russian terrorists is to destroy any means of supplying grain to world markets. The terrorist state is at war not only with Ukraine but also with the population of Africa and Asia, for whom this grain is a matter of survival", he lamented before stating that the grain and port infrastructure must be protected. "This is a guarantee, above all, for the world's food security," he said. defended.

In this sense, the Minister of Agrarian and Food Policy of Ukraine, Mikola Solski, has warned that it is estimated that the attacks have caused the loss of 60,000 tons of grain in the port of Chornomorsk.

"The grain has been destroyed by the Russians when it was supposed to be loaded onto a cargo ship and sent through the corridor 60 days ago," he said, according to a ministry statement.

Solski explained that experts estimate that it could take at least a year to completely restore the damaged infrastructure in the Odessa ports, noting that the granaries have been the most affected infrastructure.

"This is a terrorist act not against Ukraine but against the entire world. Its food security is once again at risk. Humanity is hostage to a terrorist country that blackmails the entire world. We must react harshly," he said.

In addition, he recalled that if Ukraine cannot export food, the population of third countries will be affected and has risked an increase in the prices of cereals, flour and meat, among others.

For his part, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has ordered greater protection of this type of infrastructure, which he has described as "key to supporting the grain export agreement", which expired on Monday after Russia decided not to renew it and suspend your participation.

Thus, he has said that he is aware of the latest events in the area and has warned that "every Russian missile is an attack not only against Ukraine but also against all those who strive to lead a normal and safe life in the world."

"It has been almost Russia's biggest attempt to inflict pain on Odessa during this large-scale war (...) With every such attack, we turn to our partners again and again: Ukraine's air shield needs to be strengthened" Zelensky has stated.

Likewise, the Ukrainian president has reported that the tons of grain destroyed were destined for China, a fact that shows that the Russian offensive "affects everyone." "Everyone should be interested in holding Russia responsible for terrorism," he added.

Preliminary information pointed to the use of Iranian-made 'Shahed' cruise missiles and drones by the Russian Armed Forces in these attacks, which occur for the second consecutive night over Odessa.
