Turull (Junts) says that Puigdemont will be able to return in July and will be a candidate for the European elections

He states that he would like the former president to be the candidate for the next Catalan elections

The general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has predicted that the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont will be able to return to Catalonia in July, when two months have passed since the approval of the Amnesty Law - which places it in mid-May -, and has assured that he will be the party's candidate for the European elections on June 9.

In an interview this Thursday in Rac1 collected by Europa Press, he explained that "if there is no misfortune", both Puigdemont and the general secretary of ERC, Marta Rovira, and the former ministers Lluís Puig and Toni Comín should return along of the two months that judges will have to apply the law.

Regarding Puigdemont, he has maintained that "once the law is applied, all existing precautionary measures must be lifted", including the arrest warrant for the former president.

Likewise, he has warned that, although the instructor of the 'procés' in the TS, Pablo Llarena, has two months to do so, "he can do it on the first day, he can do it a week later, he can do it after 15 days or exhaust two months", so Turull places the possible return of politicians residing abroad in July.

He has also defended that the judge who wants to prevent the withdrawal of the cases "will be prevaricating", since the law is very clear and very explicit about precautionary measures, and he has assured that the case investigated by the judge of the National Court Manuel García Castellón on 'Democratic Tsunami' falls within the law.

When asked about Puigdemont's candidacy for the European elections, he said that the former president has confirmed it to Junts: "The intention is that, if he has not expressed it directly in public media, he has expressed it to us, he will be the candidate." ".

On the other hand, questioned why Puigdemont leads Junts' candidacy in the next Catalan elections, scheduled for 2025, he has stated that he would like him to be the candidate, although it is something that the party will address after the European elections.

"At Junts per Catalunya we are very clear about what we must do between now and June. Concentrate step by step and, starting in June, this will be the debate we will have. And obviously the first person we will listen to will be President Puigdemont," has explained.
