Tourists trapped in Ethiopia arrive in Barcelona and criticize that the Embassy has not "helped" them

BARCELONA, 14 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The nine Catalan tourists and the tour guide who were trapped in an Ethiopian hostel landed at 5:30 p.m. this Monday at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport and criticized that the Embassy had not "helped" them.

In statements to journalists after landing at the airport, they have accused the Spanish ambassador in Ethiopia, Manuel Salazar, of not helping the group and they have regretted that he only showed up in Addis Ababa "to take the photo", once they were already in a city out of the conflict zone.

The tourists have shown their relief upon arriving at Terminal 1 of the airport and have appreciated all the help and support received, and the tour guide, Noelia Bertrán, explained that they feared for their lives: "One night we all locked ourselves in a room in the dark and in silence."

They have arrived in the Catalan capital from the Turkish city of Istanbul on a commercial flight after missing the connection flight that arrived in Barcelona around 10 am.

Of the rest of the group of tourists, six have arrived in Madrid this Monday and another three have landed in Valencia after spending more than two weeks in Ethiopia.

The group had been trapped in the Ethiopian city of Addis Zemen since August 2 due to clashes between state security forces and Fano militias in the Amhara region and this Saturday they were evacuated to the capital Addis Ababa.
