Torres (BBVA) calls for the political scenario in Spain to be cleared "as soon as possible" after 23J

The president of BBVA, Carlos Torres, has called for the political scene in Spain to be cleared "as soon as possible" after the general elections on July 23.

"It is good that the institutions work in Spain, that democracy works and that we have clarity about what the scenario is as soon as possible," he defended in an interview in 'La Vanguardia' collected this Sunday by Europa Press.

He has pointed out that a greater focus should be placed on how investment is stimulated, since in the end it is what ends up creating opportunities, employment, economic activity and "everything else comes from there".

With regard to artificial intelligence, he stated that he sees it as a "second industrial revolution" and that it will have a very positive impact on improving productivity, and he has pointed out that what worries him most about this technology is the risk that it may bad actors.

According to him, the bank saw in Catalonia "a key market, a market in which to grow" during the process of concentration of the financial sector in this territory, and he was pleased that this gave them a market share that has placed them, in his opinion, apparently, as the second bank in Catalonia.

He pointed out that Spanish banking entities are focused on "organic growth and taking advantage of growth opportunities associated with decarbonization, digitization and innovation", so when asked if the merger with Banco Sabadell is ruled out, he has answered yes.
