Thousands of people demonstrate in Madrid against Israel's "genocide" of the Palestinian people

Sumar asks Sánchez to "take another step" and demand "immediately" an end to "the bombings against civilians"

Thousands of people have attended the demonstration called at 6:00 p.m. near the Atocha station in Madrid to show support for the Palestinian people and to protest against what they consider to be a "genocide" by Israel against the civilians of Palestine and specifically from the Gaza Strip.

During the march, which ended its journey in Madrid's Puerta del Sol under the slogan "Not in our name", crowds of protesters waved Palestinian flags and carried banners demanding peace and respect for Human Rights.

"It's not a war, it's a genocide!" "How many more must die?" On the other hand you proclaim like "Long live the struggle of the Palestinian people" or "Israel, murder!".

The deputy of Sumar and leader of Más País, Íñigo Errejón, attended the protest and said before it began that Israel has to stop "the ethnic cleansing that is being carried out in Gaza" and "the bombings against civilians" , betting on "the only viable solution" that includes "the end of apartheid, the end of the occupation and the recognition of the Palestinian State."

Errejón sees "good" the step forward taken by Pedro Sánchez's Executive to force the EU to send humanitarian aid to Palestine, but believes that "it is not enough" and that it is necessary to "immediately" demand that Israel cease the attacks on the Gaza Strip and bombings "against civilians."

He has also attacked the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, for their meeting with the Israeli president, Isacc Herzog. For the Sumar deputy, the position of both leaders has been "absolutely shameful" while "the civilian population was being massacred." In his opinion, being "on the side of peace" is not "taking photos with those who threaten genocide."

Podemos spokesperson Isa Serra also attended the demonstration, asking Sánchez to "stop showing complicity" with the Government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and to take the president to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"Netanyahu must be brought before the International Criminal Court, as the Government of Spain, for war crimes against the civilian population in Gaza," Serra demanded in statements to the media before the start of the protest. He has also called on the European Commission to "stop being complicit in genocide."

Asked if there is division within the Executive over the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Podemos spokesperson defended that her party has "a clear position" against "the war crimes that Netanyahu and the State of Israel are committing against the population in Gaza".

For her part, the general secretary of Podemos and acting minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has assured that the streets of the capital "have been filled" with "dignity" to call for "the end of the planned genocide of the State of Israel on the Palestinians."

"The streets of Madrid were filled today with dignity to call for an end to the planned genocide of the State of Israel against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Palestine freedom," said the leader of Podemos in a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
