Petitions exceeded two million last week and citizens have until July 20 to cast their vote

MADRID, 12 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The deadline to request a vote by mail for the general elections ends this Thursday, July 13, although citizens have until July 20 to deposit it at any Post Office in Spain during their usual hours.

Voters who choose this voting system can request it until this Thursday, July 13, at any Post Office or online through its website www.correos.es.

From there, Correos has until Sunday, July 16, to deliver the envelope with all the necessary documentation --including the ballots-- to the address indicated by the applicant. Postal workers will try to personally deliver the documentation to the voter up to a maximum of two times. After that, they will leave a notice of arrival for collection at the corresponding post office.

Until last week, requests for telematic voting exceeded two million, a record number in this voting system, according to the Independent Union and Officials Center (CSIF).

For this reason, and given the celebration of public holidays in different towns in Spain and the summer period, Correos recommends that citizens who wish to exercise their right to vote by mail try not to wait until the last day and take advantage of the hours of the post offices.

Once the vote has been requested, the voter will have until Thursday, July 20, to deposit the documentation at any Post Office in Spain. There, the Post Office workers will require the voter to identify himself with the DNI or a similar document.

In the event that the person concerned is not present at the indicated address when the Post Office deliverers try to deliver the documentation in person, the vote will remain at the corresponding post office also until July 20.

The deposit of the vote must be made during the usual hours of the post offices. However, Correos has extended the hours of thousands of its branches throughout Spain to expedite voting by mail.

People who requested a vote by mail but cannot personally go to the Post Office to deposit their vote, must grant authorization for the delivery to be made by another person on their behalf. The authorization must be signed by the voter and accompanied by a photocopy of their national identity document, passport or other official identification document, as well as a photocopy of the identification document of the person they authorize.

To facilitate the drafting of this authorization document with all the necessary data, Correos recommends using the authorization model that can be downloaded on the website www.correos.es.

Postal staff will not accept the delivery of electoral documentation belonging to another voter if it is not accompanied by the corresponding authorization signed by the voter, which must be kept, together with a photocopy of the official document accrediting the voter and the person delivering on their behalf. the electoral documentation, for its remission to the corresponding Electoral Board of the Zone.
