The number of women murdered by gender violence has risen to 28 so far in 2023, after confirming the cases of Tarragona, La Rioja and Valencia.

In the first case, it is a 36-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner in the province of Tarragona on July 2. The victim had a minor child and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

In the second case, it is a 35-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner in La Rioja on July 8. The victim had a son and two minor daughters and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

The third case is about a 38-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her ex-partner in the province of Valencia on July 9. The victim had two sons and a daughter who were minors and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

With the confirmations of these cases, the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain rises to 28 in 2023 and 1,212 since 2003, when data began to be collected. Likewise, the number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain rises to 33 in 2023 and 410 since 2013.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has transferred his "affection" to the four women victims of sexist violence in the month of July. "Let's stop this scourge from the unity of the whole society, without hesitation, or half measures," the chief executive wrote on his Twitter account.

Likewise, the Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, and the Government delegate against Gender Violence, Victoria Rosell, have expressed their "absolute condemnation and rejection" of these sexist murders and convey "all" their "support" to relatives and friends of the victims. In addition, they have called for "all efforts" from the institutions, administrations and society as a whole "to arrive on time and avoid more deaths."
