The young man who attacked Rajoy in Pontevedra assaults a journalist from La Voz de Galicia

The young man who in December 2015 attacked the then President of the Government, the popular Mariano Rajoy, on a street in Pontevedra has attacked a journalist from La Voz de Galicia this Friday after breaking into the newsroom that this newspaper has in the city of Lérez.

According to 'La Voz de Galicia', the young man entered the newsroom and attacked the journalist Alfredo López Penide with a knife, who suffered injuries to his hand and chest. Precisely, at this moment he is being treated at the Montecelo Hospital.

The author of the attack broke into the newsroom that the newspaper has on Rosalía de Castro street on the morning of this Friday, where, according to La Voz de Galicia, he began to hit computers and other effects of the facilities with a rolling pin. In addition to the assaulted journalist, a person from the administration was at the scene.

After being alerted, the police subdued the assailant, who put up resistance. Once arrested, he was transferred to the CHOP Psychiatry Unit.

The arrested man, who is now 25 years old, attacked the then Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, in December 2015, whom he approached to ask for a photo while he was walking through the center of Pontevedra on the occasion of the electoral campaign. For this reason, he was sentenced by the Pontevedra juvenile court to two years of internment in a closed regime as the author of an attack crime.

In addition, in 2019 he was arrested for beating a Vox leader and, in 2020, the National Police arrested him for having assaulted a client in a bar in Ourense. For these facts he was tried this week, accepting the sentence agreed by the parties.
