The UN confirms the entry of 14 more trucks with humanitarian aid for Gaza

MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, has confirmed the entry of 14 more trucks with humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip.

"14 more trucks have entered Gaza today through the Rafah border crossing with the help of the Egyptian Red Crescent and the UN," Griffiths published on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Griffiths highlighted that this shipment is "another small glimmer of hope for the millions of people who so desperately need humanitarian aid."

"I am particularly grateful to the aid workers on the Palestinian side who immediately jumped in to unload the goods despite the risks. They are true heroes. They also need protection," he highlighted.

This same Sunday, Egyptian media reported the entry of a convoy of 17 trucks with humanitarian aid, without it being clear whether it refers to the same convoy or a third convoy that would be added to the one that led to the entry of the first 20 trucks on Saturday. since the beginning of hostilities.

The trucks transport medicines, health supplies and food, explained the head of the Egyptian Red Crescent for North Sinai, Jhaled Zayed, quoted by the state news daily 'Al Ahram'.

In reality, the trucks do not enter the Gaza Strip, but rather they unload their goods between the Egyptian and Palestinian gates and then those goods are loaded again onto Palestinian trucks.

Health sources cited by Al Jazeera have highlighted that the shipment contains important medical supplies, such as antiseptic, which has been in short supply in recent days due to its use on wounded people.

The shipment is carried out in coordination between the Egyptian Red Crescent and the Palestinian Red Crescent. However, humanitarian organizations have warned that the aid sent on Saturday barely represents 3 percent of the daily needs of the Gazan population.

Late in the afternoon, the Israeli authorities confirmed that they have allowed humanitarian aid to enter from Egypt. "At the request of the United States and in accordance with the instructions of the political sector, United Nations humanitarian aid with only water, food and medical supplies entered today through the Rafah crossing, in the south of the Gaza Strip," he reported. the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

"All the material has been checked by officials of the Israeli security forces before entering Gaza," the source highlighted in a statement reported by 'The Times of Israel' newspaper.

Israeli military sources have stressed that fuel will not be allowed in and as long as the aid does not fall into the hands of Hamas. "Any supply attempt that is not coordinated and approved by Israel will be thwarted," he warned.

On the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing there are 170 trucks waiting to get the green light to enter the Palestinian enclave with the help of international organizations.

Only Egypt has highlighted that it has prepared 3,000 tons of aid for immediate entry into the Gaza Strip, as highlighted by the governor of North Sinai, Mohamed Shosha.
