The Supreme Court paralyzes the ban on the abortion pill in the US

MADRID, 15 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Supreme Court of the United States has paralyzed this Friday the prohibition of the abortion pill, decreed by a Texas court, at least until next Wednesday, giving time to the various courts involved in the issue to deliberate on it.

A few hours earlier, the Department of Justice had asked the Supreme Court to suspend the recent decision of a Texas court on the restrictions on the use of the abortion pill, in what is the first case of this magnitude that ends up falling before the most country's highest court since its magistrates eliminated the constitutional right to abortion in June last year.

The White House has celebrated the suspension of these restrictions through a statement from its spokesperson, Karine Jean Pierre. "The President and his administration continue to support approval based on independent scientific evidence from the FDA (the Food and Drug Administration), the expert authority for researching, approving, and regulating a wide range of drugs."

"The stakes could not be higher following the continued attacks on women's health, and we will continue to fight to restore the protections of Reo v. Wade," he added, referencing the 1973 legal precedent that allowed abortion nationwide. and that it was repealed in 2022, opening the door to a wave of restrictive measures on abortion in numerous states of the country.

After the paralysis of the Supreme Court, its nine members should vote with a majority of at least five to four to have this restrictive measure permanently withdrawn.
