The Supreme Court confirms the nullity of Ryanair's salary cuts during the pandemic

MADRID, 8 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Supreme Court has ratified as void Ryanair's salary cuts to its employees starting in July 2020, coinciding with the pandemic.

As reported by the USO union, the Supreme Court has issued a ruling confirming the nullity of this measure adopted by the airline.

The organization thus responds to the appeal filed by Ryanair itself due to its disagreement with the ruling of the National Court, which already declared this decision null and void after a lawsuit from the union.

For USO-Air Sector, the Supreme Court ruling "marks a new milestone in the fight for the recognition of the rights of the cabin crew group." Thus, they point out that the judiciary has once again recognized the "repeated violations" of rights committed by Ryanair.

The union recalls that, during the pandemic, the Irish company applied a 10% salary cut to cabin crew and 20% to pilots since July 2020; It modified the work pattern, moving to 5 days of work and 2 days of rest (previously 5/3), and eliminated a productivity bonus of 150 euros per month.

Thus, after the Supreme Court ruling, they hope that the change in the work pattern will be carried out "immediately." USO highlights that "it is worrying" about the attitude of some companies, such as Ryanair, which follow a strategy "focused on violating the legal system" with the "hope" that judicial decisions will end up being produced years later, thus achieving "an advantage competitive in the short term".
