The RTVE Council once again postpones the decision on the signing of Broncano in the absence of Elena Sánchez

The Board of Directors of RTVE has once again postponed the decision on the signing of the comedian and presenter David Broncano with a new program for the 'access prime time' slot of La 1 de TVE, in a new meeting marked by the absence of the counselor and former interim president Elena Sánchez, for medical reasons.

It was the interim president of the Corporation, Concepción Cascajosa, who has removed the debate and vote on the Broncano contract from the agenda, considering that she would not obtain the necessary support to move the proposal forward. Sources close to RTVE, consulted by Europa Press, have detailed that the signing of Broncano would require five votes in favor, a simple majority is not enough.

This Thursday's meeting began at 10:00 a.m. and concluded around 4:00 p.m., with a break for lunch for the councilors. This time, Cascajosa only had four votes (his, Ramón Colom's, Roberto Lakidain's and Juan José Baños's), since the three PP councilors opposed the hiring of Broncano and José Manuel Martín Medem announced his abstention.

Martín Medem had warned that he would only vote in favor if the contract is only for one year, with an audience at least equal to the network's average and, above all, if the program is made in co-production, that is, using the technical and professional means of TVE.

At the conclusion of the meeting, RTVE reported that the RTVE Board of Directors has postponed the decision on "the contracting of the audiovisual projects that were on the agenda, along with other matters."

The meeting has been suspended by decision of the provisional interim president, Concepción Cascajosa, "who appealed to legal uncertainty in the pending decision-making procedure," the Corporation detailed, adding that the meeting will resume soon.

Before the meeting, the newly elected interim president, Concepción Cascajosa, has called a "fraternization breakfast" between the members of the governing body of RTVE and the senior management of the public Corporation, to which not even the former president has attended. interim Elena Sánchez, due to illness, nor the counselor José Manuel Martín Medem. The last few weeks have been marked by the debate generated by the signing of comedian and presenter David Broncano with a new program for the 'access prime time' slot. On March 11, the RTVE directors already chose to postpone the vote on the hiring of Broncano in an extraordinary Board of Directors, due to doubts about the viability of a contract that would involve the payment of 42 million euros for three more seasons. VAT (14 million euros per year), from September 2024 to July 2027. The majority of the Board of Directors rejected the contract proposed by the Content Directorate led by José Pablo López.
