MADRID, 13 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE has transferred this Thursday that they are going out to win the municipal and regional elections on May 28, against a PP that is "retreating". In addition, they point out that it is in question whether the leader of the 'popular', Alberto Núñez Feijóo, arrives as a candidate for the general elections at the end of the year, or along the way he is replaced by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

In an appearance before the media, the PSOE Municipal Policy Secretary and Vice President of the Congress of Deputies, Alfonso Rodríguez Gómez de Celis --to give details about the Municipal Convention that the PSOE is holding this weekend in Valencia-- stated that some "conservative opinion makers" are already raising the question of whether Ayuso will replace Feijóo.

In his opinion, this is the diatribe in which the right moves while the PSOE comes out to win the elections. "We Socialists did go out to win the 28M elections", he has indicated to underline the contrast with the PP.

Gómez de Celis has accused Feijóo of permanently backing down and recalled that on November 22 he said in the Senate that the 28M elections would be the real motion of no confidence against the Sánchez government.

On the contrary, he has indicated that these days the leader of the PP has begun to back down that statement. "Deep down, in his privacy, he is very clear that the PP will lose the elections on 28M," he added.

He has also stressed that the party faces the electoral appointment with strength since it governs for 20.6 million people, has about 2,500 mayors and about 22,500 councilors. In addition, it has 57% of the municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants.

Regarding the Municipal Convention that brings together this weekend in Valencia the federal leadership of the party and the main mayors and candidates for local governments, Gómez de Celis has indicated that it is the most important act of the party between congresses.

He has also indicated that the former President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, will participate, among others, who will speak at the inauguration on Saturday morning together with the Minister of Finance and Deputy Secretary General, María Jesús Montero. Before that, the presidency of the table will have been chosen, which is expected to go to the former minister and candidate for mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias.

In total, the presence of some 2,000 people is expected, including mayors, councilors and other PSOE positions. On the contrary, the majority of PSOE barons will not attend the meeting. Among the attendees is the mayoress of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, who will intervene in a dialogue moderated by the minister spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez.

Already on Sunday, the framework program for municipal governments will be voted on and the convention will be closed by the president of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, the candidate for mayor of Valencia, Sandra Gómez and the president of the Government and general secretary, Pedro Sánchez.
