The prosecutor supports shelving the investigation into the former director of the CNI for espionage with Pegasus

The prosecutor has positioned himself in favor of shelving the investigation of the former director of the CNI Paz Esteban for espionage with the Pegasus software on the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès.

Legal sources have explained to Europa Press that the prosecutor has argued that the CNI had judicial authorization for espionage between summer 2019 and May 2020.

Regarding the espionage in 2018, which is outside the judicial permission, the prosecutor considers it cannot be attributed to Esteban because he did not yet direct the CNI.

In March, the 29th Court of Instruction of Barcelona rejected Paz Esteban's request to archive the case, given that the judge suspects that the CNI could infiltrate Aragonès's cell phone without asking permission from the Supreme Court (TS).

Esteban declared that he was under investigation on January 26 regarding the documents that the Government declassified in relation to the espionage of Aragonès. From these documents it is clear that the tapping of his telephone was authorized because the CNI believed that he was the one who directed the Defense Committees of the Republic (CDR).
