The PP sees Díaz's proposal on co-official languages as a "smoke screen" to cover up "problems" with Sumar and Podemos

Tellado says that it is a "sterile debate", that they are not used too much in the Senate and that the Spanish are not concerned

MADRID, 3 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The deputy secretary of Organization of the PP, Miguel Tellado, has described this Thursday the proposal of the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, to reform the Regulations of Congress so that the deputies can use the co-official languages, as a "smoke screen" not to talk, among other things, about the "internal problems" of Sumar with Podemos.

"It is not a real demand from the Spanish," Tellado pointed out in an interview on RNE, collected by Europa Press. For this reason, she considers that the intention of the second vice president of the Government is to create "sterile" debates with which to cover other issues.

The PSOE government partner stated yesterday that she would like this reform to take place in Congress because Spain is a country "of countries", "diverse" and "plural" in which "different identities" deserve this "right".

Sumar gives the Senate as an example, where the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician is currently allowed in a partial way, limited to the presentation of writings, the General Commission of the Autonomous Communities and in the debate of motions.

In this sense, the 'popular' leader has maintained that in recent months, in which he has served as a senator, he has verified that the co-official languages are not used too much in the Upper House.

Even so, from the PP they insist that they have no problem with the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician, because "it is already used in the Senate", but that what is truly important right now is governance for the next four years .

Tellado, who has criticized that it is a proposal that can divide society between supporters and detractors, has stressed that languages serve "to communicate, not to confront".

And he has ensured that Díaz makes this proposal public to avoid talking about the left losing the elections and Sumar's "internal problems", with Podemos trying to gain more power or threatening not to respect voting discipline, he added.
