The polls open in the presidential elections of El Salvador

MADRID, 4 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

This Sunday at 7:00 a.m. (2:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) the polls for the presidential elections in El Salvador opened, in which the current president, Nayib Bukele, starts as the main favorite.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has given the starting signal to the electoral day in which the 60 deputies who will form the Legislative Assembly in the period 2024-2027 are also elected.

The TSE magistrates, accompanied by international observers and local authorities, held the opening ceremony with a live broadcast from Plaza Morazán, in San Salvador. Some voters were already queuing in front of the voting centers since early morning.

The only significant mishap in the last few hours has been related to the lack of accreditation of members of the Vote Receiving Boards (JRV) and international observers, reports the newspaper 'La Prensa Gráfica'.

The issue has been resolved when the TSE has enabled online accreditation. TSE magistrate Noel Orellana has blamed political parties for the delays.

1,595 voting centers with 8,564 Voting Receiving Boards have been enabled so that the 5,473,305 Salvadorans registered can cast their vote.

Bukele has all the ballots to be elected in the first round. According to the latest polls, the president would have 80 percent of the votes, well above the 50.01 necessary to avoid a second round. His five opponents alone wouldn't even reach 15 percent together.
