The Police investigate an alleged sexual assault on a minor in a park in Petrer (Alicante)

The National Police is investigating an alleged sexual assault on a minor under 16 years of age in a park in the municipality of Petrer (Alicante), allegedly committed by other minors, according to police sources reported to Europa Press. The events occurred last Friday, March 24, at around 9:30 p.m., in the Campet park in the Alicante town of Petrer.

According to police sources, the agents already have evidence to determine who the suspects are and believe that all of them are minors, although the investigation is open to compare all the evidence they have obtained and to proceed with their identification.

The Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has confirmed that the Police are investigating the identity and number of the alleged attackers and "in the next few hours" they will try to have the answers, as she said in a statement to the media. of communication in Barracas (Castellón).

"The National Police is in the middle of an investigation and the investigative work is undoubtedly going ahead. The victim is a minor, therefore, we have to preserve his identity and the terms of the investigation are kept secret," he pointed out.

Asked about the increase in reports of sexual assaults, Bernabé has defended that "it is also largely due to the fact that there is a greater awareness of this type of aggression", for which he has considered that it is "a collective triumph".

"Increasingly, the feeling among the population is that it is necessary to denounce possible situations that perhaps were not reported before. It is a greater awareness on the part of women and the rest of society. I believe that all citizens can become a purple dot and be aware of any situation that may arise and report it," he said.

According to the newspaper 'Información', the young woman was allegedly assaulted from behind by three young men. One of them allegedly raped her and the other two violently held her down. Subsequently, the minor went to the Petrer II Health Center, where she was treated in the first instance and from there transferred to the Elda General University Hospital where she was discharged, after being hospitalized all night and undergoing a "meticulous forensic examination". .

The Petrer City Council has convened for this Monday afternoon, at 7:00 p.m., a concentration in the Campet park in rejection of the sexual assault against the minor and has made available to the victim all the psychological resources available to the consistory.

The mayoress of the municipality, Irene Navarro, has expressed her "solidarity and support for the victim and her family" and has shown her commitment to "continue working on the prevention and eradication of gender violence in all its forms".
