The Central Court number Five of the National High Court has ordered the imprisonment of a person for his alleged involvement in a crime of smuggling defense material destined for Russia, in an investigation that is still open and in which he has also arrested another person.

As reported this Wednesday by the National Police, agents of the body and the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency have arrested these two people, of Russian and Ukrainian nationality, in the Gipuzkoan towns of Irún and Ondabirra.

The investigation was initiated in June 2021 with the intention of preventing the imminent departure of a shipment of glass for military aircraft cabins after the agents learned of the presence in Spain of a Ukrainian couple who ran a Spanish company. , the supply of military aeronautical material eluding legislative controls.

From there, a "framework" has been uncovered that had designed a "sophisticated customs engineering, at an international level, to carry out operations in which it was declared that the destination of the merchandise was countries not subject to embargo, Russia being really its final destination", they have explained from the Police.

The intervention of the agents has left two arrests and the consequent house searches, in which documentation and computer effects have been intervened, in addition to two high-end vehicles. One of the detainees would be the head of the business network.

The operation was carried out jointly by the General Information Commissioner, the Deputy Directorate of Customs Surveillance and the Provincial Information Brigade of San Sebastián, under the direction of the Central Investigating Court number five of the National Court and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation remains open in order to prove other illegal commercial operations of the same nature that have already been carried out, as well as those that are underway and to proceed to the full identification, location and arrest of other individuals involved in the events.
