The Kings are encouraged to participate in a cajoneada in the Congress of the Language

CÁDIZ, 27 Mar. (from the special envoy of Europa Press, Eduardo Blanco) -

The Kings Felipe VI and Letizia have been encouraged this Monday, March 27, to participate in a popular cajoneada organized by the Instituto Cervantes and the Cádiz City Council within the framework of the XI Congress of the Spanish Language, in a spontaneous act applauded by those present.

At 18.30 in the afternoon a cajoneada with two cajoneros began in the square in front of the Falla Theatre. It is an activity that people could sign up for - in total, some 60 spontaneous participants have joined.

The Kings have arrived, they have seen them and the monarch has been encouraged to play too, an initiative that Queen Letizia has also joined, clapping while sitting on another box. The King has been for a small moment keeping the rhythm, among the laughter and complicity of the participants.

This cajoneada aims to commemorate the origin of the flamenco cajón. In 1977, when Paco de Lucía discovered this instrument, the cajón, on a tour of America in Peru, the sound caught his attention and he began to play the guitar with it.

With 64 cajones, which have been played simultaneously in a large group of participants, different styles of flamenco have been interpreted, always guided by conductors. The public that has attended accompanies with feet and palms the proposed rhythms to dialogue with the participants.

The conductors have been the percussionists El Guille (Spain) and Mario Cubillas (Peru) who link their exhibition with the inaugural show 'Tempo de Luz', at the Gran Teatro Falla --and which was also attended by the King and Queen-- giving the relieved the percussionist Paquito González.
