The Government will confirm Álvaro García Ortiz as attorney general of the State until 2027 despite the ruling of the Supreme Court

MADRID, 22 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At the next meeting of the Council of Ministers, which will be held on Tuesday, November 28, the Government will confirm Álvaro García Ortiz as State Attorney General (FGE) until 2027, as reported by government sources.

In this way, the Executive maintains confidence in García Ortiz, who took office in August 2022 as a replacement for the former Minister of Justice Dolores Delgado, throughout the legislature chaired by Pedro Sánchez that has just begun and that, predictably, It will last four years, as announced by the President of the Government. Moncloa has highlighted that he is "a career prosecutor of recognized prestige."

The renewal of the position occurs just one day after the Supreme Court (TS) has partially upheld the appeal presented by another candidate for the position of prosecutor of the Military Chamber when appreciating a "deviation of power" in the proposal from the State Attorney General to promote his predecessor, Dolores Delgado, to the highest category of the Public Prosecutor's Office, ordering the actions to be retroactive until the moment of submitting such proposal to the Council of Ministers.

This Wednesday, the Government spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, was asked if Álvaro García Ortiz still has the confidence of the Government after the TS annulled Delgado's appointment, but she avoided answering by pointing out that the Executive respects all judicial decisions.
