The Government of France saves the immigration law in the Senate with concessions to the right

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The French Senate has given its first support to the immigration law promoted by the Government, after the right has introduced amendments that contemplate the elimination of aid, stricter requirements for family reunification and quotas revised every three years to allow the entry of economic immigrants, all measures that did not appear in the initial project.

The text has been approved in first reading by 210 votes in favor and 115 against. "It is an important text, with some modified parts, which reflects firmness and a measure of regularization of workers" without papers, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, celebrated on social networks, waiting for the National Assembly to "enrich" also the project.

The president of the Republicans group in the Assembly, Olivier Marleix, has already announced that his party, representative of the moderate right in France, plans to "continue tightening" the text in future procedures, although he has admitted that the scope of any measure will be "limited" if it is not accompanied by a review of the Constitution, reports the newspaper 'Le Monde'.

The approval represents a first victory for the Government, which had called for reforming the law to control the arrival of immigrants and speed up deportations and, at the same time, favor the integration of foreigners on French soil. The next parliamentary step will arrive in mid-December, without ruling out the possibility that the Executive can force approval without a vote if it does not achieve a sufficient majority.
