The fire of Tejeda (Gran Canaria) evolves in a "positive" way and it is not considered to go up to level 2

LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, JULY 25 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has reported on Tuesday night that the forest fire that affects Tejeda is evolving in a "positive" way, so it is not considered going up to level 2.

Morales explained, at a press conference, that the fire declared in the Cortijo de Huertas area, in Tejeda, is evolving "positively" although there is still an active flame at the head, although the right flank is "almost stabilized, presents important stabilization features.

However, he qualified that the left winger keeps his head active although "it has gone down in intensity". In any case, the situation for the night is expected to be "positive" because "the humidity will increase considerably" and the temperatures will drop. For this reason, he indicated that he hopes that "no complications arise" during the night.

For his part, the technical director of the fire, Carlos Velázquez, has indicated that they will work throughout the night "in relatively comfortable conditions", since the intensity of the flame "is not very high", although he pointed out that the head of the fire, which is the most active, it will "take time" for them.

In relation to this, he has pointed out that although the left flank keeps its head active, "it evolves very slowly and is in decline", which makes it go "slower" and to which is added that "there is no sunstroke".

So far, some 210 hectares have been affected after the fire started at noon on Tuesday on the edge of a wooded area in the Cortijo de Huerta "with a slope to the east, with a wind coming from the west, so that he took a very high career and to which secondary focuses were added", which "complicated" the situation.

But, he said, "no" there was a continuous situation of scrub and they were also able to take advantage of some roads to do control work, then the fire entered the zone of descent, which he has affirmed that "facilitates", it is a "descending fire and it is what they want to take advantage of" now that it is close to the Cueva Blanca dam.

"It evolves little, we do not see an intensity of wind, there is an active flame but not an increase in surface area," the director of the fire has summarized.

The area of Pico de las Nieves remains evicted, as well as the town of Cuevas Blancas, in addition to the Camaretas and Garañón shelters, as well as some isolated houses, but they qualify that for a preventive nature because "there have really been no risks to homes or people".

It is an area, they point out, with "few homes", "quite disabled", what was most there were military infrastructures that "have been saved".

Since the forest fire started, some 150 people have been working, to whom the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has pointed out that they are going to take over at night with approximately half of the human resources.

Regarding the relief of people, Morales has stated that he has been speaking with the Canary Islands Minister Héctor Gómez, as well as with the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and with the Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, because steps are being taken to try that the Military Emergency Unit (UME), if necessary, work to extinguish the fire, since they are on the island.

However, Morales qualified that the legislation states that the UME cannot act until the fire is at level 2, an issue that he understands may make sense in the peninsula but in the archipelago the management is up to the councils. In any case, he indicated that steps are being taken although there are means to continue facing the extinction of the fire.

Finally, the highways that remain closed are the GC-15 at kilometer 14,600 (La Lechuza, ascent to the Summit), the GC-600 from kilometer 6 to 14,200 (Cruz de Los Llanos to Ayacata) and the GC-130 from kilometer point 0 to 11,550 (from Cruz de Los Llanos to Cazadores), and at kilometer point 20 it is blocked in the direction of Cazadores and is closed at its exit from Telde.
