The emeritus king arrives in Vitoria after his five-day stay in the Galician town of Sanxenxo

VITORIA, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The King Emeritus landed this afternoon at Vitoria's Foronda airport after ending his stay in the Galician town of Sanxenxo and the reason for his visit to the Álava capital has not been officially disclosed.

Juan Carlos I left the house of his host and personal friend, the sailor Pedro Campos, in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) after 5:15 p.m., where he had been staying since last Wednesday.

From there he traveled to the Peinador airport, in the city of Vigo, where he took off at around 6:15 p.m., putting an end to his five-day stay in the Pontevedra municipality. Juan Carlos I planned to participate in the Copa del Rey de Vela, although in the end it was not possible due to weather conditions.

The ex-monarch thus flew by private plane to the Foronda airport in Vitoria where he landed at around 7:00 p.m. After going down the stairs of the aircraft and shaking hands with two runway operators, he got into a Mercedes van and left the airport, greeting the media who had come to the scene.

In this way, the emeritus will extend his stay in Spain for personal reasons, before leaving for Abu Dhabi, where he has resided since 2020.

In recent years, Juan Carlos I has visited Álava territory on several occasions for personal reasons. In addition, in March 2015 he had lunch in Vitoria with the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, and two years later, in June 2017, he attended the inauguration of the Rothschild Winery in Samaniego
