The CPI rises to 2.3% in July due to fuels and core inflation scales to 6.2%

MADRID, 28 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1% in July in relation to the previous month and raised its interannual rate by four tenths, to 2.3%, mainly due to the rise in fuel prices and of tour packages.

With the advance in July, inflation resumes its rise and puts an end to two consecutive months of falls that brought the CPI to 1.9%, its lowest level since March 2021, according to advanced data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In addition to the increase in the cost of fuel and tourist packages, Statistics has attributed the rise in the CPI in July to the fact that the prices of clothing and footwear have fallen less than they did in the same month of 2022.

Conversely, the INE stresses that in July the prices of electricity and gas fell, compared to the rebound they experienced in the same month last year.

The organization includes an estimate of core inflation in the CPI data preview (excluding unprocessed food and energy products), which rose three tenths in July, to 6.2%, standing almost 4 points above the general CPI.

The First Vice-President of the Government and Acting Minister for Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, stressed that the advanced CPI data "points to a gradual stabilization of prices, with inflation around 2% and underlying inflation around 6%".
