The PP and Vox question the 'colletillas' of the independentistas and reserve the option of appealing

The promise or oath of the Constitution, the last procedure to assume the full status of deputy, has once again been dotted with various tag lines formulated by dozens of deputies, with mentions of "the Catalan republic", the so-called "exiles", the "plurinationality" or the republic.

The seven ERC deputies have chosen the same formula, promising the Constitution in Catalan "by legal imperative and until the achievement of the Catalan republic", while those of Junts have proclaimed their "loyalty to the people of Catalonia" and their referendum mandate of October 1, 2017, as well as his defense of "all the retaliated and exiled".

For their part, the six deputies from Bildu have promised in Basque "by legal imperative, and until reaching the Basque Republic", the same thing they said four years ago.

In the ranks of Sumar there has been a varied catalog of additions, commitment to "equality" by the new spokesperson, Marta Lois; references to the republic, such as the Andalusian Engracia Rivero or the first secretary of the Board, Gerardo Pisarello, from En Comú; or "the Spains" by Txema Guijarro and "plurinational and feminist Spain" that Esther Gil, the new vice president of Congress, has cited.

Íñigo Errejón, from Más País-Sumar, has taken the opportunity to play several styles at the same time: "For popular sovereignty and fraternity between peoples (this part in Catalan), for social justice and for the Earth, I do promise". "To continue transforming our country with courage, yes, I promise", said the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra.

Izquierda Unida has five deputies in this XV Legislature and each one has used a different formula, from "democracy and tolerance of republican values" that Enrique Santiago has said, "the fight against Franco" that Toni Valero from Malaga has mentioned, and even a memory for the Valencian actor Ovidi Montllor by Nahuel González.

The Vox deputies have also wanted to add a "for Spain" when promising or swearing the constitution, while in the PP there were no tag lines.

Once the process was finished, the spokespersons for Vox and the PP, Pepa Millán and Cuca Gamarra, respectively, took the floor to question the additions of the pro-independence deputies, considering that they do not meet the formal requirements and do not allow valid oaths to be given.

But the president of Congress, the socialist Francina Armengol, has replied that "all the formulas used conform" to the Regulations of the Chamber, the resolution of the Presidency in force since 1989 and the doctrine of the Central Electoral Board and the Constitutional Court, which in His latest sentence already endorsed the 'colletillas' used in the constitutive session of 2020.

In any case, the PP and Vox reserve the option of filing appeals, both for amparo before the Chamber table and, later, before the Constitutional Court.
