The Sevillian artist María Jiménez has died this Thursday at the age of 73 in Triana, as reported by her family in a statement sent to Europa Press.

"With deep sadness and pain in our hearts, we say goodbye to María Jiménez today, a woman loved and respected for her unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and admirers. An indomitable spirit, an overwhelming personality, a strong and courageous woman who fought against all adversity beyond imagination," said his son, Alejandro Jiménez, in said statement.

María, who passed away at 1:00 a.m. surrounded by her loved ones, "devoted her life to her two children, Rocío and Alejandro, her passions, her friends, whom she cultivated and loved with great generosity until the end of her days, to his sister Isabel, whom he adored, and being a flag of freedom", reads the text.

With almost fifty years of musical career, the singer, dancer and actress has published eighteen albums, as well as acting in films and television series. Among her recognitions, she was awarded in 2022 with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, and also the Medal of the City of Seville, the Gold Badge of Chiclana, the Andalusia Excellence Award or the distinction at the Radiolé Awards.

In 1976 he published his first album that included rumbas, tangos, bulerías, boleros, rancheras and ballads by Silvio Rodríguez, Lolita de la Colina and Amancio Prada. It was in 1978 when Jiménez released 'Se acabó', whose first single became an absolute success in Spain and Mexico, with casual lyrics about a woman fed up with a situation of abuse.

During the eighties he continued recording and releasing albums. In 2001 she collaborated on the song "La lista de la compra" with the group La cabra mecánica that managed to reach the top of the list of Los 40 Principales. In 2002 he published the album 'Donde más duele (Canta por Sabina)' which covers the songs of Joaquín Sabina. Finally, in 2020 he published his latest album, 'La vida a mi manera', with collaborations with other artists such as Pitingo or Miguel Poveda.

On the big screen, the artist participated in films such as 'Manuela' (1976), 'Forgive me, love' (1982), 'Ja me maten!' (2000), 'Yo puta' (2004) or 'Los managers', among other films. On television, Jiménez also appeared in fictional series such as 'Hostal Royal Manzanares' (1996) or 'All men are equal' (1997).
