Telefónica Tech joins forces with the Chinese company EHang to promote urban air mobility in Europe and Latin America

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Telefónica Tech has partnered with the Chinese company EHang, which produces electric aerial vehicles with vertical takeoff and landing capacity for the transport of passengers and cargo without a pilot, to promote urban air mobility in Europe and Latin America, as reported by the operator in a statement.

Both companies will present their project on February 26 in Barcelona, within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), and in this joint initiative Telefónica Tech will contribute its 5G connectivity and private network capabilities to enhance the "security and efficiency" of this type of mobility and expand and export "smart solutions with unmanned aerial vehicles."

In this context, the two companies seek to implement use cases in Europe and Latin America around urban air mobility solutions focused on passenger transportation, logistics, health services, emergency response and smart city management.

In addition, they will collaborate in carrying out 'Drone Light Shows' with swarms of drones in formation to digitize and increase the sustainability of mass shows and celebrations.

"5G mobile networks have the ability to guarantee the reliability of communications, low latency and high data transmission capacity. These characteristics allow optimizing the control and real-time monitoring of the aircraft by sending telemetry or data multimedia, both to ground control systems and to centralized public information systems," Telefónica detailed.

To articulate this collaboration, both companies have Telefónica Tech's 'TheThinX' laboratory and the EHang Urban Air Mobility Center in Europe, located in Spain.

"We are delighted to be able to join forces with Telefónica Tech to jointly deploy urban air mobility and the low-altitude economy in Europe and Latin America. Telefónica Tech's capabilities and experience in connectivity and Internet of Things will allow EHang to deploy its solutions of effectively and safely, thus allowing millions of people to benefit from its applications," highlighted EHang's Head of Operations in Europe and Latin America, Victoria Jing Xiang.

For his part, the global director of 'internet of things' (IoT, for its acronym in English) of Telefónica Tech, Alfredo Serret, has highlighted that this alliance with EHang means being part of a "pioneer" project for air mobility of the future.
