Telefónica and Meta join forces to promote access to virtual reality for older people

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Telefónica and Meta have joined forces to collaborate and promote access to virtual reality for older people through the Telefónica Foundation's 'Reconnected, technology has no age' project.

As announced this Tuesday, this strategic alliance seeks to promote access and participation of older people through workshops on the use of immersive and metaverse technologies.

With this collaboration, both companies strengthen the alliance announced last year, in which they committed to expanding and exploring new ways to promote innovation in connectivity and technology in the field of the metaverse, seeking to "empower the community of creators to unlock developments of new use cases.

Specifically, this new initiative seeks to provide accessible and personalized mixed reality experiences that encourage connection, entertainment and learning.

Telefónica and Meta have worked to offer mixed reality content accessible through Meta Quest 3 devices and that are "easy to use and adapt to the needs of older people."

To this end, accessibility functionalities have been incorporated into the Movistar immersive experience, such as vocal assistance and interaction.

Likewise, the contents for this project range from visits to virtual works of art, recreational activities and digital social interaction to cognitive development experiences.

The Director of Public Affairs at Meta, Jose Luis Zimmerman, has commented that their objective is that "anyone can benefit from immersive technologies" and that is why they are "delighted to support this project with Telefónica, which also focuses on those people who are not familiar with these new technologies.

For his part, Telefónica's Digital Director, Chema Alonso, has stated that the company has always been "committed to guaranteeing access to technology to offer the best experience to all users."

Alonso added that with this collaboration, they seek to "maintain that commitment by making it easier for older people to fully immerse themselves in virtual reality."
